At LUXXE Organix, Dr. Meenakshi Balakrishnan teaches Guided Meditation classes. After many years helping patients look and feel better about themselves in her career as a Board Certified Orthodontist, Dr. Balakrishnan sought out additional training to help individuals navigate their most stressful periods of their lives. While maintaining her orthodontic practice in Downers Grove, she shares guided meditation and breathing techniques with LUXXE Organix clients on an ongoing basis.

How does Mediation benefit your health?

Most will agree that meditation is a spiritual exercise, but the health benefits are incredible! Several studies show that meditation can heal the body and mind to prevent disease and increase happiness!

Stress Reduction

Meditation improves both the physical and emotional responses to stress. Stress is a contributor to all the major modern killers, from heart disease to cancer. In fact, it’s hard to think of an illness in which stress & mood don’t figure, according to Charles L. Raison, MD, clinical director of the Mind-Body Program at Emory University School of Medicine.

Stress reduction has also been shown to help you manage your emotional response to adversity, challenges and disappointments. When the mind is calm, it is better able to react to negative outcomes, which has a positive correlation to overall health and wellness.

Improved Focus & Concentration

Meditation teaches us to focus and concentrate during the practice, but that continues into the rest of the day! Multitasking is easier, and memory becomes sharper. The mental clarity is a by-product of increased energy from the calming of the mind.

Self-Awareness and Acceptance

Quiet time to reflect speeds the acceptance of things you cannot change. Meditation allows you to learn to be comfortable in your own skin, and be in-tune with your body and your thoughts.

Increased Immunity

Meditation induces relaxation, which allows your blood pressure to drop. This in turn improves the function of the immune system. Many people that practice meditation notice a reduction of even minor illnesses!

Increased Happiness

Studies show that meditation impacts the left side of the prefrontal cortex. This area of the brain is responsible for positive emotions and optimism. By stimulating this area, you become happier.

Of course, being more self-aware, healthy and less stressed also tend to make people happier!

 

Our classes at LUXXE Organix can give you the tools to meditate at home, or provide an oasis for you to stop in and make the time in your schedule to meditate with guidance.

Classes are held on Friday from 9:00am-10:00am for $20/session.

Private or semi-private sessions are available for $85/$45 per session.
